is found in the New Testament.
And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me can not be my disciple.
"Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it? For if he lays the foundation and is not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule him, saying, 'This fellow began to build and was not able to finish.'"
"Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Will he not first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple."
"Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out."
(Luke 14:27-35 NIV)
This is so easy, that I am surprised it was written in the Law of Moses. If the prophecy comes true then the prophet was a good one. On the other hand to verify Jesus' prophecies one would have to live a long time, to see all his prophecies fulfilled.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
(John 3:16 NIV)
Eternal life is a very long one. Those that heard Jesus, will be alive in at the end of times. A look at events that were predicted that have happened so far is on my Fulfilling the Prophets page. Since many can see that some of the prophecies have been fulfilled, it follows that the prophets in the Bible were good valid prophets and their words should be taken seriously.
You surely know that the Lord's return will be as a thief coming at night. People will think they are safe and secure. But destruction will suddenly strike them like the pains of a woman about to give birth. And they won't escape. My dear friends, you don't live in darkness, and so that day won't surprise you like a thief.
(1 Thessalonians 5:2-4 CEV)
....to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
(Matthew 28:20 NIV)
If we truly love others and live as Christ did in this world, we won't be worried about the day of judgment. A real love for others will chase those worries away. The thought of being punished is what makes us afraid. It shows that we have not really learned to love.
(1John 4:17-18 CEV)
Jesus answered, "My time hasn't yet come, but your time is always here."
(John 7:6 CEV)
